The ancient art of acupuncture involves the insertion of fine needles into pressure points in the body. It can help alleviate pain, stress and anxiety and can be used in conjunction with other more traditional therapies.  Our therapists are accredited by the British acupuncture council and have over 20 years of combined experience.

Acupuncture is usually performed with disposable needles. The needles used are exceptionally fine and in skillful hands can bring amazing effects. It is used to stimulate the relevant points to improve the flow of energy and to clear the blockages along the meridians in the body.

Some techniques based on the principles of acupuncture:

  • Electro-Acupuncture – applying needles with electric pulse stimulation.
  • Acupressure – applying pressure with the fingers to various points.
  • Moxibustion – applying heat to points or certain locations of the body by using “moxa-wool” Chinese herb.
  • Cupping – attaching a cup to the skin surface to increase the circulation, diminishing pains
What can it do for me?

Some people turn to acupuncture for help with a specific symptom or condition. Others choose to have treatment to help maintain good health, as a preventive measure, or simply to improve their general sense of well-being. Traditional acupuncture aims to treat the whole person rather than specific symptoms in isolation, it can be effective for a range of conditions.

An acupuncturist treats the person, not just the condition which you have, so each patient’s treatment plan will be different. However, you can always ask one of us to contact you to give you an idea of what to expect. Many people return to acupuncture again and again because they find it so beneficial and relaxing.

In 2009 the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence recommended that acupuncture should be made available on the NHS, as a cost-effective short-term treatment for the management of early, persistent non-specific lower back pain.

At the Centre we have four fully qualified therapists offering Traditional Chinese Acupuncture. All are registered with and members of The British Acupuncture Council, the leading British regulatory body for acupuncture which ensures that all its members have the first degree level training in traditional acupuncture and comply with strict Safe Practice standard.
