I am also a Yoga Teacher and my specialist area of interest is the mind body connection that often gets ruptured when we struggle to process trauma, loss or any change in life. I was involved early on in my career in research at the Institute of Psychiatry regarding the impact of Menopause upon the identity of women and I started to see the importance of the narratives we have about self and the body and mind connection in how we attribute meaning to our life experiences. My approach is very client led and flexible to reformulating what may be helpful along the therapeutic journey.
This then led to me working with a variety of medical conditions considering the psychological impacts of these and mental health and personality concerns across the lifespan. The most intense of these difficulties have led to people entering forensic settings as early intervention for help has not been available. I have worked with acceptance and processing issues with individuals and their support networks for menopause, miscarriage, brain injury, terminal illness, dementia, strokes, cardiac conditions, amputees, chronic pain, bereavement, trauma, fertility, transplants, neurodevelopmental conditions (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Autistic Spectrum Disorder, Dyspraxia and Dyslexia), chronic diseases (diabetes, HIV), and adoption. I have worked with mental health concerns such as anxiety, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, eating disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, adjustment disorders and severe and enduring presentations such as psychosis. I specialise in the treatment of personality disorder and dissociative conditions.
I was previously a Consultant Clinical Lead for a Rehabilitation Company offering supervisory services to Therapists and Psychologists in the completion of both therapeutic and medico-legal reports. I have worked within forensic hospitals, inpatient psychiatric hospitals and on a sessional basis with Priory Hospitals for both inpatients and outpatients. I continue to work as an expert witness in medico legal assessment considering the impact of physical injuries from accidents, criminal justice issues and medical negligence. I also take rehabilitation treatment referrals following physical and psychological injuries.
I am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council and the British Psychological Society. I am enhanced DBS Checked.
