Ultrasound is a useful and painless diagnostic scan to provide real-time images of muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves, joints and cartilage throughout the body.

It can be used to help diagnose sprains, strains, tears, trapped nerves, arthritis and other conditions.

Ultrasound gel will be placed on the affected area for scanning with an ultrasound probe. This produces various images of the scanned area. Ultrasound is safe and non-invasive.

The ultrasound requires little to no special preparation and will take between 15 – 30 minutes to perform.

Common areas to review include shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand, hip, knee and ankle. It can be particularly useful following a sports injury and when used injunction with a treatment such as an injection.
