About Hemant

He pursued his post-graduate degree in Paediatrics from a large tertiary referral centre B.J. Wadia Hospital for Children in Mumbai, which is a 300 bedded Paediatric Hospital with various sub-specialties like Paediatric endocrine, Paediatric nephrology, Paediatric Haematology, Paediatric neurology & epilepsy, Paediatric infectious disease, Paediatric Liver, Paediatric surgery, neurosurgery and plastic surgery. He has worked in various NHS Trusts in the South East region during his run through specialist training in Paediatrics before joining the research post at King’s College London. He has gained extensive experience in Neonatology during his training at Hammersmith Hospital (Imperial) and King’s College Hospital in London where he held the position of Consultant Neonatologist. He also trained in PICU at King’s College Hospital where he gained experience of managing critically unwell children. He also worked as a Consultant Neonatologist at University Hospital Lewisham before joining Darent Valley Hospital in 2021.

With extensive experience from both the UK and abroad, he is able to holistically approach and manage various medical conditions in children whether acute or chronic. He is very well versed with the management of a variety of conditions in smallest premature infants to adolescents such as growth failure, endocrine conditions, initial assessment of allergies, hayfever, headache, abdominal pain, nocturnal enuresis, faints/dizzy spells, sleep difficulties, constipation, hypermobility, eczema, migraine, nutritional advice, health promotion and most of the conditions that can be managed in a clinic setting. He aims to deliver high quality care for the children and newborn infants with special emphasis on improving their experience by practicing family integrated care.

With his special interest and experience in Neonatology, he has been helping to provide excellent care to the sickest preterm infants delivered locally. With this experience, he is able to support the department achieve a variety of achievements in his role as a deputy Neonatal Lead. He has a keen interest in research and has numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals. He has successfully introduced and driven the participation of the department in National clinical trials to find the best evidence in treatment and management of children and newborn infants. He holds the position of the research lead at Darent Valley Hospital where he leads the local recruitment on numerous National Randomised Clinical Trials (RCTs) which is the gold standard in evidence-based medicine.
